17th September 2010 - Jackie Deffley had a 4 pound grilse and a sea trout estimated at 2 pound today.

13th September 2010 - Jackie Deffley had 2 grilse last week. Manfued Bunzel had 2 grilse and 15 sea trout were returned. Over the past week there were 14 salmon caught on the Newport river, some were very fresh.

12th September 2010 - David Cawley from Foxford had a 4 pound salmon in Walshes bay on a Bibio today.

31st August 2010 - Over the last number of weeks 12 salmon and about 40 sea trout were caught. Jackie Deffley, Gerry Deane, Pat McHale and Tom Vesey were some of the anglers who caught salmon average size between 3 and 4 pound. James Herron returned a number of sea trout.

26th July 2010 - Liam Conroy and Peter Gosson had a very fresh 4 pound grilse and 12 sea trout on the Co-op side of the lake today.

24th July 2010 - No returns from the lake as very few have ventured out over the past week.. Eamon Kennedy had a 9 pound and a 14 pound salmon off the Newport river. Both fish were very fresh with sea lice.

15th July 2010 - Eamon Kennedy and his boat partner returned a 4 pound grilse and 8 sea trout today. Fish caught at the Dock and Morrisons on a Green Peter, Bibio and a Shrimp. Big flood going into the lake tonight.

13th July 2010 - Kevin Gerry returned a 5 pound grilse. Jim Ruane, PJ Nally, Oliver Corcoran and Declan Dooley all turned salmon over the past few days. A number of sea trout were returned as well, the heaviest a 3 pound fish by John Healy. Heavy rain today will see another flood tonight. Please note all fish including sea trout must be reported.

8th July 2010 - 2 grilse off the lake today 4 and 5 pound, caught by Jackie Deffley and John Healy. A good number of sea trout were also landed.

6th July 2010 - 4 salmon caught on the Newport river tonight. With the arrival of rain Salmon and sea trout have been running the system over the last few days. The lake has risen 2 foot since last Friday.

3rd July 2010 - We have had no rain of significance since Easter and this has seriously hampered the fishing. After a small flood in the Newport river Salmon and Sea trout have been seen running over the past 48 hours.

9th June 2010 - James O Hora had an 8 pound salmon on a cascade off clarkes point today. Water levels in the lake are at a historic low since Easter and very few boats fishing.

30th May 2010 - Ian Conn had an 8 pound salmon, slightly red, on a badger early today. 2 other boats also rose fish.

15th May 2010 - Eamon Kennedy had a fresh 10 pound salmon at Morrisons this evening. The fish was in about a week and shows that fresh fish are still making their way up the river despite the low water.

14th May 2010 - The Glenisland Co-op had their annual fishing competition on the lake today. Despite an excellent turn out no fish were taken. A couple of fish were risen but unfortunately no connects. A good day was had by all and we would like to thank everyone who fished for their support.

13th May 2010 - Rocky Moran had a 10 pound salmon at Faheys point this evening. Very few boats fishing over the past week or so.

10th May 2010 - Lake is very low and we badly need a decent fall of rain. River and lake should fish very well after the next flood.

4th May 2010 - 5 salmon from the Co-op side today. Jonathan Murray had 3 fish between 8 and 10 pound on shrimp flies between the Dock and Faheys point. Alan Donoghue had a 12 pound fish at Flanagans bridge and Paddy Kelly had a 9 pound fish at Morrisons on a badger.

3rd May 2010 - Martin Hughes had a 7 pound salmon at the red shed this evening. Eamon Kennedy and Des Beirne turned fish and James O'Hora's boat lost a fish at Morrisons. Very few fished the lake in the last week.

2010 Competition - This years fly fishing competition on lough Beltra will be held on Friday 14th May. Glenisland Co-op would appreciate the support of all anglers and an application form can be downloaded here.

The following competition regulations will apply:

1) You must notify the secretary before Wednesday 12th May if you wish to take part as there is a limit to the number who can fish the lake at any one time. Please call 086 2361944 to register.

2) Fishing times are from 10.30am to 3.30pm or 4pm to 9pm. Please select whether you want to fish morning or evening. Boats must be on the shore at 3.30pm and 9pm.

3) Weigh-in will be at 10pm sharp in Rockys bar, Linenhall street, Castlebar. All fish to be handed in before weigh-in commences.

4) Fly fishing only, maximum 3 salmon per angler.

5) Entry fee of €20 for Co-op members. All entrants must be paid up members of the Co-op. Excellent prizes.

6) Each entrant will fish at their own risk and must wear a life jacket.

7) Anglers must have a current salmon licence.

23rd April 2010 - Eamon Kennedy had a fresh 7 pound salmon around the buoy this evening. Rocky moran also lost one about 10 pound at the net.

19th April 2010 - Jackie Deffley had an 8 pound salmon this evening just outside the dock.

18th April 2010 - Jackie Deffley had a 9 pound salmon over the weekend. The fish took a golden shrimp just beyond the dock at the top of the lake.

15th April 2010 - Eamon Kennedy had a 12 pound salmon on a badger between the buoy and the dock this evening. The fish was recently run and very fresh. He also turned another. James O'Hora had a 9 pound fish at the stakes on a badger.

2010 Competition - Our annual fishing competition will be run on Friday May 14th. More details to follow.

9th April 2010 - Michael Dolan had an 8 pound fish on a badger at the buoy today. 1 salmon was also taken off the river.

7th April 2010 - 2 salmon off the lake today and 2 off the river. Declan Dooley had a fresh 7 pound fish on a badger at the buoy. Rocky Moran had a 6 pound fish at the stakes and lost another. Steve Jones turned 3 fish. 2 salmon caught and 3 lost on the Newport river. Very good run of fish into the system this past week.

6th April 2010 - 2 salmon off the lake today and 1 off the Newport river. David McCloon had a 10 pound fish at the buoy on a Beltra Badger. Johnathan Murray had a 5 pound fish at Tommys wall and Allister McCloon had a 9 pound fish on the river.

5th April 2010 - James O'Hora had a 13 pound fish at Morrisons today. Brian Connolly also turned a fresh fish at the red shed. There is a big flood in the lake this evening which should bring in more fish. 75 members have signed up to the Co-op so far for 2010.

3rd April 2010 - Aidan Beirne had the first fish of the 2010 season today. The fish was estimated at 8 pound and was taken on a shrimp fly at the dock. Eamon Kennedy had a second fish today estimated at 9 pound at Morrisons. Both fish were very fresh. Catches should start to improve with the arrival of rain after what has been a very dry March.

17th March 2010 - We have purchased 2 new Yamaha 4 stroke engines which are now available for hire. We have also launched the 6 Co-op boats - 4 at the car park and 2 at the dock. Construction on our new fishing hut begins this Friday, 19th March. Our new season gets under way on Saturday 20th. Tight lines to all our members for 2010.

5th February 2010 - The 2010 fishing season will commence on Lough Beltra on Saturday 20th March. Applications for membership to the Glenisland_Co-op are now being taken. If you would like to fish the West side of Beltra then please contact Newport House.
